The courageous and passionate student

Raissa Kanziza

Evangeline is a 35-year-old woman from the Ciya community in Bubanza. Her story is one of growth, perseverance, and faith.

Before she began her journey into the sewing profession, Evangeline had a deep passion for it, though she struggled with how she could learn or afford to pursue this interest.

One day, an opportunity arose in her community when the ICJ foundation asked if anyone wanted to learn how to sew. Seizing the chance, Evangeline embraced this opportunity, and over time, she has made notable progress in her skills.

Now, she is not only capable of sewing clothes, but also knows how to sew trousers, and when her child's clothes are torn, she can easily repair them. Evangeline is proud of how far she has come in her craft and continues to feel the growth and improvement she has made.

But Evangeline's story extends beyond her sewing skills. Her spiritual journey has been just as transformative. Before, she was a person who preferred to keep to herself and stayed away from others. But as she began to learn God's word, she began to see the positive changes in her life. The word of God brought her comfort, especially during difficult times. She had faced many challenges and moments of despair, but learning about God helped her understand that these struggles were a normal part of life.

Evangeline also shared that, while she hadn't initially repented, she now feels saved, attends church regularly, and even sometimes teaches others. The Bible was given to her, and it has become an essential part of her spiritual growth. She expresses immense gratitude toward the ICJ Foundation for all the support they have provided to her and the community.

Through her journey, Evangeline has learned that progress in both skill and faith is possible, no matter the obstacles. She is a living testament to the power of perseverance and spiritual transformation.
